Octave is part of an executive exchange program from Revlon to Maybelline, but he is really a spy sent to discover how Maybelline can produce their newest cosmetic for so cheap. Maybelline knows he’s a spy and has assigned him to work as Public Relation coordinator on their newest line of fashion products. Revlon knows how to make a similar age revitalizing cosmetic but can’t figure out how to do it cheaply and with the limited side effects, and would be willing to extract the scientist that made it possible.
Curtains is a reporter with her own show Curtain Call, which usual covers fashion and entertainment fluff. She has aspiration of covering hard new and in particular corporate scandals. She contacted a friend, which happens to be Octave’s ex-lover and enemy, for leads on a possible scandal. Her friend gave her Octave contact information, knowing he is looking into the newest cosmetic that’s price is too good to be true. Her friend also said feel free to make his life complicated, and be careful to not fall in love, he can be a charmer.
Colt dreams of building his own personal empire. Colt’s family acts as private secret police force. Colt’s family is in an ongoing feud with a rival family the Stevenson’s. Curtains’s uncle, who she is not on good terms, runs a secret private prison, that is often used by Colt’s family. Colt’s lover, Val Stevenson, is a member of a rival family. They exchange low tech written correspondences to maintain their love and to avoid electronic surveillance. Curtains is often asked to act as a go between and deliver these letters.
